Welcome!

Stitching Friendships
Community Friendship Quilt

Taking the theme of friendship and building connections Helen Walsh and Helen Tuck, artists from The Heathlands Project, will be working with different groups to design and make a quilt. The first stage of the project will involve us visiting the different groups and working with them to design and begin making the sections of the quilt. The groups will be provided with materials and supported to design and make patches which will be joined together to make the final piece. The groups will then be able to carry on with their patches which will then be collected ready for stage two.

The second stage will involve joining together all the patches to make the finished quilt. This will take place in the Community Room at Tullie House, Carlisle in March and all the participants will be welcome to come along and help. Members of the public are welcome to come in and see what’s been going on and see how the art work is made and how a community arts project works. People can also get involved and contribute by adding their stitches to a title piece for the work; a length of fabric to be embroidered with the word ‘Friendship.’

Our aim is to use textiles and stitch as a way to help people come together in a supportive environment to learn new skills and make new friends. This project is funded by The Laurie Brewis Trust.
